EXT. GRANDMAÕS HOUSE- DAY
A nice, old-fashioned country house. The car is parked in
the driveway.

INT. GRANDMAÕS GUEST BEDROOM- DAY
There is a regular bed, with a full mattress, box spring,
and frame, and a much less-desirable fold-out cot. The boys run in, and Jamey
quickly establishes himself on the bed, unpacking his knapsack on it and
pulling out a book.
WERT
I
want the big bed!
JAMEY
No.
He starts to read his book.
WERT
You
always get it!
JAMEY
Remember
before you were born? Those were good times.
Mom enters, with a Polaroid camera.
MOM
Wert,
give Jamey the big bed. HeÕs bigger.
WERT
Well
I want to be bigger!
MOM
Boys, you be very good for
Grandma, okay? SheÕs getting up there in age, and sheÕs a little fragile.
She takes a picture of them, then sits on the bed.
MOM
IÕm going to leave you the camera,
Jamey. I want you to take some pictures this week, because you know GrandmaÕs
not going to remember anything about your visit otherwise.
WERT
I
want to have it!
JAMEY
HeÕll
break it.
WERT
I
might not!
JAMEY
Whatever.
MOM
Okay, Wert, IÕm going to trust you
with it. This is the timer, you know?
WERT
I
know!
MOM
Okay,
I love you both. Remember to brush your teeth.
She stands up, and Wert unabashedly puts his arms around her
and hugs her. Jamey is still reading, too cool to hug Mom, so she walks over
next to him.
MOM
Jamey?
JAMEY
Mmmm
hmmmÉ
He hugs her too, trying to still be cool about it.
MOM
Can
you say ÔI love youÕ?
JAMEY
(grudgingly)
iloveyou
MOM
And
can you both say it to each other?
Wert makes a face
JAMEY
No!
MOM
WellÉ
I think you do, even if you donÕt say it. IÕll be back on Tuesday.
